Methodology Hub

Our assessment framework is built on two complementary methodologies that together provide a comprehensive view of corporate climate performance and impact potential.

Science-Based Assessment

The Exponential Playbook assessment framework combines sector-specific pillar weighting with impact ratio analysis to evaluate companies not just on their emissions reduction efforts, but on their potential to enable systemic decarbonization across the economy.

Pillar Weight Methodology

Determines how to weight each of the five climate action pillars based on a company's sector, business model, and where they can have the greatest impact.

10 sector archetypes with base weights
Company-specific adjustment factors
Grounded in CDP, SASB, PCAF standards

Impact Ratio Methodology

Quantifies a company's positive climate impact relative to its footprint, applying GHG Protocol's Avoided Emissions framework and WBCSD guidance.

Handprint ÷ Footprint = Multiplier
6 company type archetypes with ranges
Based on VTT, WBCSD, GHG Protocol

How These Methodologies Work Together

1

Sector Classification

We identify the company's sector archetype to establish base pillar weights that reflect where emissions typically occur.

2

Impact Assessment

We calculate the Impact Ratio to understand the company's potential for enabling decarbonization beyond its own footprint.

3

Weight Adjustment

High Impact Ratios increase Pillar 3 (Climate Solutions) weight, reflecting the company's role as a climate solution enabler.
