Framework for identifying Climate Solutions Companies

50% Threshold

Products must be 50% lower footprint than alternatives

What is a Climate Solution?

"A climate solution is a product or service that meets a need in society, contributes to the reduction of GHG emissions, and has significantly lower emissions than business-as-usual options. Production and consumption of climate solutions is compatible with the global 1.5°C ambition, and will accelerate the transition towards a net zero carbon economy."

1

50% Lower Carbon Footprint

Carbon footprint at least 50% lower than market-weighted average footprint of products/services being replaced. Assessment made on functional-unit, full-lifecycle basis including all value chain emissions.

≥50% reduction (preferably 90%)
2

Net Zero Intensity Threshold

Fulfil a credible intensity threshold per functional unit for a net zero world, based on a robust taxonomy or science-based methodology.

Meets net zero pathway threshold

Products must meet at least one of these criteria, plus all underlying requirements and safeguard requirements to qualify as a climate solution.
